A true Southern classic, perfect for Derby Day, holidays, or anytime you want an old-fashioned pie everyone will love.

What is Kentucky Derby Pie?
The pie is made with chocolate chips, walnuts or pecans (your choice) and often includes bourbon, since Kentucky is known as the Bourbon capital! It’s probably the easiest pie to make, and if you use a store-bought crust, you cut the time way down. Personally, a homemade crust is a great addition, but if you don’t feel comfortable making a crust, just buy one you can roll out.
Do You Have to Add bourbon to the Kentucky Derby Pie?
No, you absolutely do not. Many would argue with you about adding it, but we make it every year without it because some people just don’t like the taste of bourbon. Yes, you read that correctly. There are people in Kentucky who are not huge fans of bourbon. This pie is delicious without it!
Do you serve it warm or cold? Walnuts or Pecans?
This pie is great either way! It is great with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream or cold right out of the fridge. Great with whipped cream too.
This pie is great with walnuts or pecans, we always use what we have on hand, which is usually pecans. The taste of chocolate chips with pecans is really good.
